The Mid-Week Peek

This week has been busy in life outside the blog, meaning life within the blog will be slow.  I’m aiming for a check in over the weekend, then the first bracket of the season makes its appearence on Monday.

Anyways, a couple things to take note of in the last couple days, and certianly a few games to look foward to.  We’ll take a brief look around

Monday:

– Big road win by Georgetown at UConn.  Not too many teams are gonna win in Stoors, which gives the Bulldogs the inside track the Big East crown.

– Elsewhere, Davidson survived what should be thier only scare in the SoCon, beating the College of Charleston on the road, Baylor beat upset minded Portland State, and Memphis picked up what (sadly) could be their best win of the season over Cinncinnati

Tuesday:

Illinois picked up a big overtime win over Purdue.  I’m starting to believe the B10 is almost entirely up for grabs.  Sure, Purdue and Michigan State look to be the class of the conference, but much like the ACC in football this year, everyone will likely beat up on everyone.  The top 10 teams (sorry, Indiana) are all much better then last year’s lousy showing.

Arkansas handed Oklahoma their first loss of the season.  The Hogs are now 10-1, and are on everyone’s radar after that upset (especialy in a much weaker SEC)

– Elsewhere, Butler beat UAB, Clemson topped South Carolina, and Wright State picked up a big win over Cleveland State in the Horizon.

Looking ahead (time is short, gonna keep them short and sweet…)

Today:

Evansville @ Illinois State: The two top dogs in the much-improved MVC battle.

UNLV @ Louisville: The Rebels beat Arizona a couple weeks back, but could sure use this win to help their chances at a single-digit seed.

Wisconsin @ Michigan:  A lot of talk that the Wolverines will fail in conference without a dominant big man.  He’s their first test.

Michigan State @ Minnesota: Time to find out just how real Minnesota’s unblemished record is.

New Years Day (not just for football):

Villanova @ Marquette: Just another big game in the Big East.

Friday:

Arizona @ Cal: The winner could need this win on their resume…

Arizona State @ Stanford:  Season’s biggest test for the undefeated Cardinal.

Saturday:

Pitt @ Georgetown: After the Bulldogs win @ UConn, these very well may be the Big East favs…

Ohio State @ Minnesota: Two Big10 teams with strong non-conf resumes.

Tennessee @ Kansas: If this was last year, this game would have been h-u-g-e.  Still, it’s a big game, and a treat for basketball fans who won’t see this match-up too often.

Wake Forest @ BYU: Biggest test so far for the undefeated Deamons.
