Didn’t get this out yesterday, got a little swamped with work.  Either way, here’s the breakdown of yesterday’s bracket.

Top Stories

Wake Forest becomes the #1 overall seed, after barely cracking the Top 25 in the season’s first pool.  They’re a long way from a lock for a one seed, but this is undoubtedly the best team in Winston Salem since Tim Duncan was in town.

– Upon furter review, I’d like to replace Maryland with Missouri as my last team in the dance.  With that, this would be the last four list:

Last 4 in: Texas A&M, Dayton, Missouri, BYU

First 4 out:Maryland, Stanford, Oklahoma State, USC

Next 4 out: Mississippi State, LSU, Arizona, San Diego State

Bracket’s Biggest Winner – Ohio State. The Buckeyes blowout of woeful Indiana, followed by their upset win in Ann Arbor bumped OSU all the way to a 5 seed, which became a 4 when teams were swapped to make sure the bracket obeyed the NCAA’s guidelines.

Bracket’s Biggest Loser – Arizona.  The ‘Cats MUST pick up some big wins on the road, as it seems unlikely they’ll be able to sneak their way in the dance at this point with their 0-6 road record.

By Conference (this will be much more in-depth next week.

Big East (9)-UConn, Pitt, Syracuse, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Villanova, West Virginia

ACC (7) –Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, Clemson, Miami (FL), Florida State, Maryland

Big 10 (7) – Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue,  Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan

Big 12 (5) – Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Kansas, Texas A&M

Pac10 (4)- UCLA, Arizona State, Cal, Washington

SEC (4) – Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas

Atlantic 10 (2)- Xavier, Dayton

WCC (2) – Gonzaga, St. Mary’s

Mountain West (2) – UNLV, BYU

MVC (2) – Northern Iowa, Illinois State

The 1 Bidders (21): Utah State (WAC), Miami Ohio (MAC), VMI (Big South), Davidson (SoCon), Memphis (C-USA), Butler (Horizon), Western Kentucky (Sun Belt), George Mason (CAA), Portland State (Big Sky), Siena (MAAC), Cornell (Ivy), North Dakota State (Summit), Robert Morris (Northeast) Austin Peay (Ohio Valley), Stephen F. Austin (Southland), American (Patriot), Hampton (MEAC), Long Beach State (Big West), Alabama State (SWAC), Albany (America East), Jacksonville (Atlantic Sun)

Last Night’s Top Stories

Pitt 78, Syracuse 60 – The Panthers waste no time getting back on track after Saturday’s loss to Louisville.  The ‘Cuse will look to rebound on Sunday against red-hot

Kansas 73, Texas A&M 53 – The Aggies were dominated on the road after a 2-0 showing last week put them in the field for the first time this season.  The defending champs meanwhile looks like a prime contender for the Big 12’s #3 slot.

Ohio State @ Illinois: The two sleepers for the B10 crown meet in Champaign.  The Buckeyes roll in on a three game winning streak, while Illinois looked good despite losing to Michigan State on Saturday.

Virginia @ Maryland: Must win for the Terps coming off two hearbreakers in Florida last week.

Michigan @ Penn State: The Wolverines went 0-2 last week, and are once again flirting with the bubble.  Penn State is a dangerous team at home, and knows a win here could put them in next week’s bracket.

Tennessee @ Vanderbilt:The ‘Vols are currently the league’s top seed – as a 7.  While this game has about 1/100th the intrigue of last year’s contest, it has all the makings of a tough contest for Bruce Pearl’s squad.
