Not a ton of action last night, which means not many changes.  VCU, Chattanooga, Gonzaga and Siena all punched their tickets.  The Gonzaga and Siena victories were to the relief of many bubble teams who were rooting hard for each team to pull out the win.

I did re-evaluate yesterday’s bracket a bit, and a couple teams slid up/down a few spots on the S-curve.  I decided assuming Florida is capable of winning two in Tampa is too much at this point, so I dropped the Gators from the field for now.  St. Mary’s was set to be the team taking their spot, but a blowout loss to Gonzaga coupled with the fact Patty Mills looks far from having his A-game leaves the Gaels out.  That left, Crieghton and UNLV.  The Rebels wins over Arizona and Louisville are too big to ignore, as well is the distinct advantage of playing the MWC tourney in Vegas.

Plenty of action tonight to tune into. The Big East tournament gets underway at noon, though the stellar showdowns really won’t start until tomorrow.  South Alabama and Western Kentucky square off for the Sun Belt title for the second year in a row.  Western Kentucky had a little bit of a scare from North Texas last night, but survived to move on.  Elsewhere, Weber State and Montana will battle for the Big Sky championship and its automatic bid.  A great tool for tracking all 30 conference tournaments is the ONE STOP SHOP set up by Courtney Basham at the bracket board.  I recommend checking it out.

The committee regularly practices swapping teams one seed to either a) keep teams closer to home or b) avoid rematches.  Because of this the following teams were swapped:

Gonzaga and LSU swapped 5/6 seeds to keep the Zags on the West Coast

UCLA/Xavier swapped 5/6 seeds for the same reason.

Oklahoma State/Siena swapped 9/10 seeds to keep both teams closer to home.

So with that in mind, here’s a look at the field as it stands today (click to enlarge, you may have to click twice to get the picture at full size)

LAST 4 IN

Providence: An RPI of 70 surely doesn’t help their cause.  They’ll need make noise in NYC when they hit the court tomorrow if they hope to remain in the field.

Arizona:  The Cats must win a couple at Staples to make the field.

Minnesota:  The Gophers dropped a tough one at home to Michigan and now face a tough Northwestern team in the B10s 8/9 game on Thursday.

UNLV:  The Rebels make the cut thanks to key wins over Arizona and Louisville.  They still likely need a run to the MWC title game to solidify a spot.

FIRST 4 OUT

Creighton:   A team of great debate, their poor MVC Tourney showing keeps them on the outside looking in.

Florida:  The Gators best win was over Washington way back over Thanksgiving.  Now they must make it to Saturday in Tampa, which means beating two quality SEC West opponents in Arkansas and Auburn.

St. Mary’s:  The Gaels didn’t get the impressive showing they needed, and Patty Mills failed to impress in his second game back.  They aren’t dumb up there in NoCal, as the Gaels scheduled Eastern Washington later this week for one last chance to state their case.

Auburn:  The Tigers jump into the picture after beating LSU over the weekend, and face a monumental battle with Florida on Friday, should the Gators beat Arkansas.
